Place? Look IN Your Hand. National Public Radio News. Retrieved from WWW.npr.org
In San Francisco they are developing the technology to see
available places for parking, and to see the exact cost and price depending on
demand.
Demetrius Martin is an actor and producer. He is launching
an app from this phone to see exactly the available places for parking.
Demand Based Parking Prices:
The application has different colors based on parking availability.
Crowded areas with high demand will have high parking prices and vise versa.
This help drivers to find appropriate parking. Collected
data from the parking meters, parking sensors, citations, transit vehicles,
sale tax: will be available for various analysis and helps improve and manage
the parking system.
Other Cities Follow Suit:
A lot of people downloaded the parking app around 25,000
. Seattle is trying to put prices
for parking with a demand. Donal shoup who teaches urban planning at UCLA says
San Fransisco is the most city that has a highest technology for the
flexibility with prices in this app. And every cities will copy it.
How It Works:
There are sensors around parking areas to see the available
parking and its uploading wirelessly to the SFparkdata feed to update people
about available places with the web site and Smartphone. And also people can
buy tickets by credit card. Martin says people will start watching the app
while driving so this is a problem because they have to focus on the road.
